March is the month that we see new growth, in Mother Nature with spring and in your Chamber of Commerce as we prepare to end the current fiscal year and look forward to the beginning of the next. This month we are pleased to present to you our members, the following nominees for our Board of Directors to serve a three year term beginning July 1, 2012. They are; Ian Porterfield, Advanced Health Source; Sharon Ellis, Pine Haven Catering & Confections; Suzanne Graves, Law Office of Suzanne M. Graves,  Beth Mack, Weichert Realtors 24/7; John Graham, Southland Data Processing and Bassim Shahin, General Manager  DoubleTree Hotel, Ontario. Please join us at our Annual Business Luncheon Thursday April 26, 2012 at Magic Lamp Inn as we elect our new directors.

This month we hold our annual State of the City Luncheon Thursday March 22nd. This year we will be in Upland at Western Christian High School. This is a sellout event and one that brings business leaders as well as residents together.

Spring also means that our Annual Gourmet Golf Tournament is almost here. Monday April 9th at Red Hill Country Club you have the opportunity to golf on a beautiful private course while enjoying tastings throughout the day. We have planned a great time for you this year. Not just with food on the course but games to make it interesting. An opportunity to win a car or trip with a hole in one. A fabulous Live and Silent Auction. Live Auction Items include a beautiful one week stay at the Classic Resorts at Mauna Lani on the Big Island of Hawaii; a one hour helicopter ride with Commander Chuck Street and a one of a kind piece of art created right before your eyes. If you haven’t registered to golf, do so today and invite friends and family for a fabulous dinner. Call the chamber or check our website for details.

If you haven’t participated recently, join us at First Friday April 6th at Imagine That! You will have the opportunity to meet over 100 of your prospective customers. How great is that! Invite a business friend to join us and see what Upland Chamber of Commerce can do for them. They’ll be glad you did!

Chair of the Board Message:
Lorraine Le Clear,
Colonies Crossroads, Inc.

Last month was filled with activity while we hit the pavement to meet with Upland business owners during Business Appreciation Week.Visiting over 1000 local enterprises,it was a pleasure to meet so many and just drop in to say “thanks” for choosing Upland and inquire as to how our Chamber can help their business. The overwhelming response was advertising and getting customers through the doors. In this tight economic environment, marketing dollars and for some, their chamber membership dues have been cut from budgets. We talked about your chance to meet over 200 people a month by attending Chamber functions; mixers and other networking opportunities we offer. I am happy to report that our First Friday breakfasts, monthly luncheons, and new memberships continue to grow in numbers. It is all about getting the word out and letting people know that being a member and attending events will give you back more in one month than the cost of the yearly dues to join.To wrap up our Business Appreciation Week, help us to help other businesses in our community by inviting just one person, member or non-member, to our First Friday breakfast starting at 7:00 a.m. on April 6th at “Imagine That” at Ninth and Mountain Avenue. We intentionally booked a large venue so that our members can share the Chamber by inviting guests and help expand our membership. The Chamber is the best networking referral service in town.If every business brought in one new member we would reign as the largest Chamber in the County!

Our three yearly Chamber events help us to help you! Please come on out whether you are a golfer or not and support Gourmet Golf on April 9th.We have a great day planned at Red Hill Country Club.Food and wine/beer tastings will be set up at several of the tees.Ourlive auction includes a 5-Star vacation condominium in Hawaii.Silent Auction baskets of great value advertise local businesses. We will havea reverse raffle and delicious dinner with a social hour so you can get to know your neighbors in a beautiful setting. If you don’t golf, come on out and sign up for dinner to for an enjoyable evening and participate in our auction.

We encourage our loyal members who have supported the Chamber through their membership to join us.Not only would we like to see you, but we want to advertise Chamber member’s goods and services by putting a face to your Company name.We look forward to seeing you soon.
